I've often wondered why it is that well over 90% of all US citizens don't have a passport, but I guess unless they travel beyond the Caribbean they can normally travel with some other kind of ID. Anyway, in this modern world we are all faced with now, the Department of Homeland Security (home of a million confiscated nail clippers and children's plastic scissors... the last one from personal experience) has now decreed that US citizens can only come and visit us if they get a passport.
Personally I think everyone should have one to travel overseas anyway, but there is a worry about guests being turned away at airports... so please, please everyone, keep on coming to the Caribbean, but don't forget your passport.

I don't think it is up to the Cayman Islands. It was a US decision for reentry of citizens. Canada and Mexico are soon to follow.

Indeed so, Debbie, it was the might Department of Homeland Secuity that made the decision.
I agree with it in principle, but, like requiring all of us "aliens" to have biometric passports, they are rushing this through in an impractical time period.
Just this week the Caribbean countries got together to lobby on this, as the US gave Canada and Mexico 2 more years than the Caribbean to comply.
Ah, I guess they have better lobbyists than we do !
