The Captain's Back Log

There's been a boat full of activity going on with Ecoventures who've been so busy lately they've hardly had time to report back to the beach-hut with their latest news.... much as they look like they're relaxing in this photo - it's all an act so that you won't feel guilty!!

HOWEVER, Rebecca of Ecoventures did tell me that she now strongly recommends pre-booking if you're planning a vacation at The Reef as they are becoming booked up, up to three months in advance for some activities - especially with regards to their speciality fishing and snorkelling excursions.

Have a shuffle through The Reef website to seek more information about their schedules or use the complimentary e-concierge service for guests.

How do we book with Rebecca? On my last visit, I was told that you have to book through the Reef concierge. This did not make much sense to me since Rebecca is Ecoventure's concierge. I would rather be able to book directly through Ecoventures in the same way I book directly with Ocean Frontiers. It seems that less mistakes on overbookings and trip availabilities would be made if bookings were solely through Ecoventures (Rebecca)and not the Reef concierges. Please respond and advise as I will be returning at the end of July for a two week visit and I look forward to stingray sandbar and fishing with Ecoventures. Thanks, Joe

If you are a repeat visitor, feel free to book with whomever you are most comfortable with, but we do strongly encourage people to book directly with our concierge at the resort in order to ensure all guest options are co-ordinated.

We are constantly in touch with EcoVentures and all of our other tour operators to ensure that schedule are maintained, cancellations handled etc... all part of the service :)

I would also like to know how to book with Rebecca, because when I was on a visit in November my trip was accidently overbooked because of the miscommunication between the Reef concierge and Ecoventures. It seems that pre-booking with Rebecca would get rid of the "middle-man" or "middle-woman" and ensure that the trip is a go? Please let me know how to contact Rebecca as I will be down in May. She was not a member of the team during my last visit. Thanks a bunch, love the blog, read it all the time, Kristin, P.A.

Everyone makes mistakes now and then, but our concierge service has been "fine tuned". If you want to contact Ecoventures in advance of arrival, do visit them through www.ecoventures.ky, but when you get to the resort, please do use our concierge service (also email them through concierge@thereef.com.ky), they have a wealth of knowledge on not just our inhouse operations (our famous Tuesday afternoon Stingray Trip, Ocean Frontiers, EcoVentures) but on all kinds of tours and other activities in the Eastern Districts and across the island.

Also, don't forget the concierge can get you the best seats and discounts at all our favourite restaurants !

I was on holiday during Easter and I prebooked with Rebecca. She was friendly and knowledgeable about everything Ecoventures had to offer. She answered all of my questions via email and had me booked for two great trips without any issues. The stingray city/mangrove trip was excellent as there were only 6 of us on the boat, and we received a great deal of personal attention from Shane and Joey. They took us to areas where there were hardly any other snorkelers. We didn't have to worry about trying to swim through crowds of people. We also had our own little spot at Stingray sandbar and everyone in our group spent a great deal of time with the stingrays. We arrived before the cruise ship "cattle herders" so there was hardly anyone at the sandbar. Afterwards, we took a slow cruise through the mangroves and Joey explained the importance of the mangrove ecosystem to all of us. He was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. Our fishing trip was just as enjoyable and exciting as we caught several fish...wahoo, barracuda, and tuna. It was awesome. Thanks to Rebecca for the ease in which we were able to plan our trip, and much thanks to Joey and Shane for being so AWESOME!! Karen, MD

I heard that Ecoventures is no longer stationed at the reef. If this is true, then how do we book with them once we are on the island? Do we still go through the concierge? Thanks, Mark

I have no idea where you got that information, Ecoventures are definitely still at The Reef and going strong :)
